Circle of Self-Examination, Prayer & Meditation

"There is a direct linkage among self-examination, meditation, and prayer. Taken separately, these practices can bring much relief and benefit.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 98

"If I do my self-examination first, then surely, I'll have enough humility to pray and meditate -- because I'll see and feel my need for them. Some wish to begin and end with prayer, leaving the self-examination and meditation to take place in between, whereas others start with meditation, listening for advice from God about their still hidden or unacknowledged defects. Still others engage in written and verbal work on their defects, ending with a prayer of praise and thanksgiving. These three -- self-examination, meditation and prayer -- form a circle, without a beginning or an end. No matter where, or how, I start, I eventually arrive at my destination: a better life."

A Step Two Meditation
A Message from God
(Copyright Geraldine M Weaver, 2010)

My Child,
I have been waiting for you. Welcome to recovery. Since the first time you picked up a drink, I have wanted this for you. I knew the misery you would suffer and I wanted so much more for you. But recovery had to be your choice because I blessed you with free will when you were in your mother’s womb. I promise to do My part, if you promise to do yours. Together you will grow and change and you will find peace.

Staying sober will not be easy. Be assured, I will never give you more than you can handle. I will challenge you and push you beyond what you believe you are capable of accomplishing. At these times, like all times, I will be at your side and no matter what you are doing you can turn to me.

I will watch over you as you face your fears. You may feel anxious, but remember courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is the ability to walk through difficulty in spite of your fear. You possess all the courage you need. You are strong – much stronger than you think.

Right now, all I ask is that you believe. Believe in Me. Believe in your sponsor. Believe in your fellow recovering alcoholics. Believe in the grace I send you each day. Believe that you can and will recover with help.

I will not abandon you. Why would I bring you this far and then expect you to maintain your sobriety without Me. I love you too much not to see you succeed as long as you are willing and follow the suggestions offered.

I have wonderful plans for you. And restoring your sanity is just the beginning. Welcome to the journey.

Your Loving Higher Power.
Amen.
